Welcome to the Al Zohra Education Trust. We are an Islamic registered charity based in Slough, Berkshire (UK), dedicated to education and poverty alleviation in the UK and overseas.
Shahnaz Akhtar founded the Trust more than ten years ago. Following the devastating 2004 earthquake in Pakistan, she started to raise funds in the local community to support the relief effort. Inspired by her work, a group of sisters joined her and remain part of the Trust’s core team of volunteers today. The charity gradually expanded becoming registered in 2009, and continues to be run entirely by a team of sisters.
Our aim is to tackle poverty at its root enabling the poorest families to send their children to school.
Our long term strategy is to invest in micro-finance initiatives, drinking water wells, medical health projects, an orphan sponsorship programme, and much more. In times of crisis, we provide humanitarian assistance through our partnerships with not-for-profit organisations that are able to quickly mobilise on the ground.
Here in the UK, we support homeless projects and run an Islamic school in Slough and Birmingham, offering a range of courses.
Alhamdulillah, we are proud to say that 100% of donations go directly towards projects.
We believe in helping to develop empowered and self-sufficient communities, enabling them to live with dignity. We are committed to helping everyone in need, regardless of race, gender or religion.
